Mobile
Rig:
My mobile is a Yaesu FT-7800R, 50 Watt, Dual Band
Radio with detachable control head. I have it installed under
a Larsen NMO2/70SH, Roof Mount Antenna. Although it is Dual Band,
it is not capable of “cross banding.” For
the money, it has been a great little radio.
My vehicle is an Isuzu Ascender, which is the same vehicle as
the Chevrolet Trail Blazer, which allowed for some interesting
installation opportunities, which you will see below.
I should point out that I took advantage of a service who not
only provided a clean, detailed, professional installation job,
with work was done quickly, and conveniently wherever your vehicle
is located; in my case, at my office. Their prices are reasonable,
and very satisfactory. If you're in the Kansas City area, I highly
recommend them! They are:

The Control Head is mounted on the center consol,
just to the left of the shifter. The external speaker (not pictured,)
is mounted on the right side of the consol, near the floor.

Before:
This is the cargo space of the Isuzu Ascender before
the installation of the radio.

|
| |
After:
The radio is mounted in one of the two stow-away
compartments in the back. This is a clean, hideaway install, and
has not suffered any issues related to heat buildup.

The
Finished Project:
The final touch includes a “perforated dish”
grill screen to allow for air movement into the compartment, (hence,
no heat problems.) This item by the way was for a Fender Guitar
Amplifier. They come in black or silver.
